MASS SAVE “Save Energy Save Dinero” Program Highlights

  • Students will meet  Leticia Colon de Mejias, author of the Dinero The Frog Learns to Save Energy Book, as well as, participate in a live educational performance that is interactive and educationally appropriate for grades K-5.
  • The educational performance is tailored to your students’ ages and size of your group.
  • Your school can participate in an energy efficient light bulb fundraiser to earn prizes and money for your school’s needs.  The students’ never touch the bulbs and the fundraiser is completed in cookie fundraiser style.
  • Best of all YOUR SCHOOL KEEPS ALL OF THE MONEY raised from the bulb sale fundraiser! The students offer bulbs for purchase to family and friends (no door to door). This is an opportunity for the students to teach family and friends about the importance of energy conservation. The bulbs will reduce energy consumption, lower electric bills and reduce your community’s carbon footprint. Order forms and payment are collected and bulbs are delivered to your school for pick up by an adult ( just like cookies or cookie dough fundraisers).
  • Students will receive Dinero the Frog Learns to Save Energy Book, an educational book which includes energy conservation lessons which align with the National Core Standards, a glossary of  definitions, details on how to save energy at home, science based energy education, conservation tools and knowledge, access to the Green Eco Warrior website, videos, educational tools, and articles.

On April 3rd the Save Energy Save Dinero Challenge visited the Berkshire Hills Seventh Day Adventist School. The program consisted of a live performance that informs students about energy sustainability and a bulb fundraiser that 100% of the profits go directly to their school. Each student learned small behavioral changes they can do at home to help save the planet and defeat the Phantom Draw a villain that steals energy. Leticia Colon de Mejias taught students that they have the power to make a difference and then gave each student a free copy of her book Dinero the Frog Learns to Save Energy. Discovery School at Four Corners Defeat the Phantom Draw

“Switch it off!” chanted the students of Discovery School at Four Corners to defeat the Phantom Draw, a comical villain that steals energy when you don’t switch it off. Students engaged in a morning of learning about energy sustainability as part of the Save Energy Save Dinero Challenge. The Challenge sponsored by Mass Save and Western Massachusetts Electric company and Green Eco Warriors presented a live performance and fundraiser to students. The performance educates students about energy, where it comes from and their responsibility to help. The children were able to meet Leticia Colon de Mejias President of the Green Eco Warriors and author of “Dinero the Frog Learns to Save Energy” and receive a free copy of her book. William N Deberry School accept the Save Energy Save Dinero Challenge!

April 10 – Mass Save and the Green Eco Warriors brought the Save Energy Save Dinero Challenge to William N Deberry School this week in Springfield. Students and teachers were excited to watch the live performance by Leticia Colon de Mejias, author of the book, Dinero the Frog Learns to Save Energy. Mass Save has sponsored the program to engage students through exciting characters such as the Phantom Draw ™, a playful menace that steals energy when you forget to “switch it off” and Dinero a curious frog who learns about saving the planet and is passionate about teaching others about energy conservation. March 28th-Alfred G Zanetti School in Springfield learned how to become Green Eco Warriors through the Save Energy Save Dinero Challenge provided by Western Massachusetts Electric and Mass Save. The Save Energy Save Dinero™ Challenge is an interactive live educational performance that explains where energy comes from, which energies are renewable, and how to save energy. Students became energy ambassadors and used their new powers to make a difference. Students met the characters, Dinero the Frog, who teaches about being energy leaders, and the Phantom Draw, a comical villain that steals energy. Each student received the book “Dinero the Frog Learns to Save Energy” and met the books author Leticia Colon de Mejias. Following the performance the students pledged to save energy and received fundraising materials. The fundraiser is a CFL and LED bulb sale and 100% of the profits go directly to the school.
